Okay, so I am trying my darndest to get into shape. I have a vacation to Hawaii planned in July and I want to look my best. I heard that Dawn Fleer, the personal trainer at Tranquility Med Spa would help me get into gear so I decided to check out her Saturday / Monday workout group, SHRED. She definitely made us work starting the process with a walk/run through Bob Mays Park for a warm up and then we switched gears and started with a partner circuit course that kicked everyone’s butts. An hour later and I was a sweaty mess. Fortunately for me, Holly Harris, one of Tranquility’s Massage Therapists who was also partaking in SHRED was going to give me my first ever Hot Stone Massage at the Spa after the workout. It was WONDERFUL! I will definitely make them (both the workout & the massage) a regular thing.
I’m totally tan April 10, 2010
I am pale, have always been pale & will probably always be pal. However, I’m okay with that. I use my ColoreScience SPF 50 to protect my skin and don’t endanger my skin by sitting in a tanning bed or the sun. Yesterday though, I was jonesing for a tan and Tranquility’s aesthetician Holly Harris was happy to oblige.
I was a little nervous, because like I said, I’m pale. I didn’t want anything drastic, but I also wanted to look like I had a nice bronze glow. And she totally came through.
Getting ready was a little unnerving, but I decided to be a little brave to avoid some tan lines. There were three layers to the tan: the base, the tan and a top coat. The base was very chilly, but once I got used to it, it felt wonderful.
I wound up with a great tan that looked completely natural. My boyfriend thought I looked great and I felt the sexiest I have felt in a long time!
New Masseuse @ Tranquility March 20, 2010
I was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to give the new Tranquility Med Spa massage therapist a test run yesterday. And let me begin by saying I was in dire need of a massage. There has recently been quite a bit of stress in my life and I have definitely been feeling it all over my body. Not only that, but sitting at a desk 50% of my day doesn’t do to well for my general aches and pains.
The new massage therapists name is Shannon and she is lovely. Still new to the trade she is excited to start her new career. Shannon has very strong hands and I can tell that she has a bright future with this path. I am someone who likes a decent amount of pressure in my massage, Shannon listened very carefully to what I wanted and delivered. Focusing on specific areas I identified as needing some extra attention.
I have been to maybe 6 different massage therapists in my lifetime and each of them has a very individual approach – Shannon was no different. Although my massage was Swedish she had just learned some new techniques and incorporated a little Shiatsu and a little reflexology to give me a taste of them.
After the massage I felt extremely relaxed, probably the most relaxed I have felt after a massage in quite some time. I definitely didn’t want to go back to work….
My Skin Care Line Up February 27, 2010
So, I have been at the Spa for almost 2 months and they started me on a skin care regimen because honestly, I didn’t have one.
The Products & The Order in Which I Use Them:
- iS Clinical Cleansing Complex w/ the Clarisonic Skin Care System & Facial Brush
- Sundari Omega 3 & Rosehip Body Wash w/ the Clarisonic Skin Care System & Body Brush
- iS Clinical Active Serum
- Obagi Medical Elastiderm Eye Treatment Cream
- iS Clinical Hydra-Cool Serum
- iS Clinical Face Moisturizer
- ColoreScience California Girl Foundation

Even though my skin care regimen went from maybe 5 minutes to about 20 – I absolutely LOVE it. My skin feels & looks amazing.
The Clarisonic Brush is a MUST. Outside of getting a facial your face will never feel as clean as it does when you use the Clarisonic.
My personal favorite products are the Face Moisturizer, the Hydra-Cool Serum, the Foundation, the Lip Candy Glaze and the Face Freshener.
I write a little more product specific later!
My 1st Day @ the Spa January 27, 2010
So, I just moved to Quincy, Illinois, and began my job as Spa & Marketing Coordinator for Tranquility Med Spa. Let me just say, I have never had a first day of work quite like this one. What kind of job treats you to a facial your first day? This one!
The first part of my day was spent learning the ropes of the Spa. You know, familiarizing me with what each room was used for, what services were offered, introducing me to the talented team of Massage Therapists, Estheticians, etc., and their computer system. Around noon I headed out to lunch; and after being told that I would be receiving a facial upon my return I didn’t take the full hour.

The Facial:
The last time I had a facial was in 2007. My sister and I decided it would be a nice treat for our mom who was visiting from Michigan. And it was, at the time. Until yesterday I don’t think I had an idea of how a facial was supposed to feel.
Holly Harris was my aesthetician (and my boss). Obviously I have met her before getting my facial, but you can tell that she is the type of person that just makes clients feel at ease. She walked me to the room and gave me my privacy to get ready for the facial. I laid on the warm, comfortable table excited for what was to come.
Most of the facial is a blur. I remember talking to Holly, but I was feeling so good that I’m pretty sure I was drifting in and out of consciousness.
Holly checked out my skin under those lights that show every flaw in your skin to determine what treatment I may need and what kind of facial to give me. Tranquility Med Spa offers over 7 different types, but for me, the Refreshing Facial.
She used the Clarisonic on me – it felt a little abrasive, but in that good way, like I felt it was really working and cleaning my skin. I will have to ask what types of product she put on me and what she used to remove the very few (ha ha ha) blemished I had lurking under my skin. I even got a bit of a relaxing massage as part of the facial (this felt soooo good).
After my facial was complete Holly talked with me about a skin regimen to keep my skin smooth and healthy looking.
She applied products from the ColoreScience line (which all have that super valuable SPF in it, I think they are all SPF 20 or higher) starting first with ColoreScience Primer in Line Tamer. This is possibly the smoothest primer I have EVER experienced. The most popular color is the Chocolate Mousse, but I’m pretty pale and even though they blend wonderfully it was still a little too dark for me.
After the primer Holly used Science Sunforgettable in All Clear Shimmer on me. It goes on with what I call a blush brush. Real simple to apply and it too has SPF in it!
My skin looked and felt beautiful! Thank you Holly!

So obviously I had to return to work after my facial, but I felt rejuvenated – like the day had just begun. I’m looking forward to spending time at the spa and experiencing the amazing products and services first hand.
